Keighley Station

Project details

Scope of work

Keighley Railway Station opened in 1885 and is now a Grade II listed structure. In 2025, a major £10 million refurbishment of the station was completed, including the replacement of the roof and much of the original ironwork, repairs to the front canopy and the creation of a new visitor centre.

The scope of works involved the complete repainting of the station and footbridge, including mechanical preparation of the wrought iron roof steelwork to remove corrosion and defective coatings, followed by the application of the Network Rail M24 maintenance paint system. Roof timbers were also hand prepared before the application of the Network Rail T50 maintenance paint system.

The project presented several challenges, including working at height, operating adjacent to and above live railway lines, and working in close proximity to overhead electrical equipment. To ensure safe and efficient delivery, noise-reduced plant was utilised wherever possible, while trackside works were undertaken during planned railway possessions with appropriate electrical isolations in place.

All works were successfully completed on programme and within budget, with no accidents, incidents or customer complaints.
