Project details
Scope of work
Filey Railway Station, a Grade II listed station dating back to 1846, serves the seaside town of Filey in North Yorkshire on the Hull to Scarborough Line.
The scope of works involved the complete repainting of the main station roof, including mechanical preparation of the wrought iron roof steelwork to remove corrosion and defective coatings, followed by the application of the Network Rail M24 maintenance paint system. The roof timbers were also hand prepared before the application of the Network Rail T50 maintenance paint system.
The project presented several challenges, including working at height and applying solvent-based coatings while the station remained operational, with live trains and members of the public beneath the work area. To minimise disruption and maintain a safe working environment, noise-reduced plant was utilised wherever possible, alongside scaffold containment sheeting to control dust and solvent vapours.
All works were successfully completed on programme and within budget, with no accidents, incidents or customer complaints.
